So you have decided you want to have an opt-in newsletter, but remember it is not only about sending your readers your latest newsletters or catalogs. There are a lot of things to consider avoiding having any complications. There are lots of ways to get readers to opt-in to your list, but there are also things you want to avoid to stop them wanting to opt-out of your list.
Below we have compiled the 3 things you need to avoid when emailing them.
1. Make note of your unsuccessful emails. Mainly the ones that bounce. Bounced emails are the ones that failed to be delivered to your readers email address.
Some bounces occur because the server was busy but might still be delivered later. They could be because your reader’s inbox is full, and then there are the ones that are simply just not deliverable. The most likely reason for these is a misspelled email address or the email no longer is in use.
Make a note of the emails that bounce and if they continue to bounce they can be removed from your list, this will help make tracking the success of your list easier. You may want to check the spellings of the bounced email addresses and check for common mistakes like .coN instead of .coM.
2. You should always have an option for your readers to unsubscribe both on your website and in the actual email they receive. Be sure that when you get an opt-out request you remove them before your next newsletter goes out. Failures to do this means you are now spamming them and this can lead to you getting in trouble and a bad reputation.
If you get reported for spamming, you will be in a lot of trouble. You will be reported to the appropriate authorities and this will result in many ISP`s blacklisting you. This is a sure fire way to lose your readers.
3. Never ever provide graphic or porn images in your newsletters. Unless your subscribers give their age when joining there is no way for you to know the ages of your subscribers and this will only lead to more complaints. Only send out mails that are related to the subject of your website and your products.
Remember to always follow these tips when sending out your newsletters and your friendship with your readers will grow and your list will increase.
