After spending many hours surfing the internet looking at ways to promote a blog or website i came across hundreds of different methods. One method of advertisement i very rarely noticed was the use of desktop wallpapers.
This got me thinking, how many people in the world own a desktop pc or laptop? Answer millions. Most people will at some time have visited the many websites offering free wallpapers to decorate their pc or laptop.
So how do you use these websites as a promotional tool? Many desktop wallpaper websites like Choice Wallpapers will allow their visitors to register and upload ther own images. The benefit to this is that you could use your domain name as your username as in the image below you will see the username of the contributor that uploaded the wallpaper.

So as you can see that is one way of getting the url of your blog or website in view of other web users. The next way is to watermark your images with the url of your website. When adding a url the best places to put your url are the top right and bottom right, this is mainly because most people align all their desktop icons on the left and putting your url on the left will most likely result in it being covered up. Depending on the image you are uploading it may be possible to add the url to the center of the image either top or bottom. You will see in the image below their is a url in the bottom right corner.

This method of advertising is very much worth a try after all its free and potentially your url could be viewed by millions. The wallpaper website mentioned above is just one of thiusands around the net that will allow you to add your own images just do a search in Google and away you go. As always we appreciate your comments.

Now I’m thinking, it’s really useful, at least for the publicity.
Have you ever noticed any noticeable change in your logs?
Thanks!

That seems like a good idea, especially for people in the design fields.

I guess it’s worth a try as long as it doesn’t take up a ton of time. Personally I’d spend my time on targeted traffic. It seems like it might get the counter moving but targeted traffic is where the sales are. I do like the way you used your domain as the user id. And at least your domain name alone describes your niche so I guess it could be somewhat targeted.
Your picture was right on the first page. I rated it ‘Very Good’ so now you have a rating of 5.

I actually very much like this concept. I’m going to give it a whirl, but then again I pretty much think any and all advertising is necessary and potentially lucrative. Thanks for the idea and post!!!!

Amazing. Earlier today I wondered how I could promote my photo images store at Etsy via offering them as wallpaper! I’ll definitely do this. You can see my work here: http://urbanislands.etsy.com

Thanks for this nice tip on advertising. I’m also planning on customizing my own wordpress theme to be distributed for free. This will add some advertisment to my site and linkbacks.
I also have read somewhere that posting some videos in you tube and meta cafe with your URL in the video might help. Thanks again.
