Google’s page rank and why I consider it to be useless and outdated. Page rank or PR for short is calculated by your links on other pages and the importance of those pages.

Unfortunately PR has been far too easy to cheat until recently simply by using a 302 redirect you where able to get PR0 pages with high PR`s. This was then used to sell links to lower ranking websites and effectively game the system.

The most important factor in PR is link popularity. Pages that include keywords in titles and headers will not rank well if the link count is low. The crawl rate of the Googlebot is also determined by a websites PR with higher ranking sites crawled more frequently.

It seems to me that Google is now more concerned with advertisements then being a quality search engine. After all if we cannot buy links or exchange links then the only other alternative is Googles Ad words hence Google make all the money. The problem is most webmasters are too scared to go against what Google say in fear of losing their rankings.

You no longer need a high PR to rank on the first page of Google in fact you don’t even need any PR at all out blog ranks well in Google for many different search terms and our PR is currently zero. So in my opinion PR is now irrelevant when it comes to ranking well in search engines.

At the end of the day I couldn’t care less what Google thinks of my websites they don’t purchase anything from me or click on my ads my customers do that and they will always come first.

With a bit of luck PR will fade away in the future and sites will rank for the quality of their unique content not for that pointless little green bar.
